Women’s Hockey Pushes Unbeaten String to 10 With 7-2 Win Over Bethel

The Gustavus women’s hockey team defeated Bethel University 7-2 in St. Paul on Friday night. The Gusties, who were playing their first match in over a month, jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the game. Jenny Pusch scored two goals and Margaret Dorer contributed three assists to lead Gustavus.

The Gustavus women’s hockey team defeated Bethel University 7-2 in St. Paul on Friday night. The Gusties, who were playing their first match in over a month, jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the game. Jenny Pusch scored two goals and Margaret Dorer contributed three assists to lead Gustavus. The Gusties improve to 9-1-1 overall and 7-0-0 in the MIAC, while the Royals fall to 2-7-1 overall and 2-5-0 in the MIAC.

First year forward Jenny Pusch opened the scoring for the Gusties with a goal at 12:13 of the first period with an assist from Margaret Dorer. Two minutes later, Stefanie Ubl extended the Gustavus lead to 2-0 with a power play goal at the 14:32 mark. Dorer and Crandall were credited with assists. The Gusties, who outshot the Royals 15-6, led 2-0 after the first period of play.

In the second period, Gustavus extended its lead to 5-0 on goals by AbbyRandall (2:50), Jenny Pusch (8:28), and Sarah Heinbigner (16:26). Bethel got on the board at the 18:53 mark with a goal by first year forward Anna Baumgarten. The Gusties outshot the Royals 22-8 in the period, and led 5-1 after 40 minutes of play.

Gustavus continued to put pressure on Bethel in the third period and extended its lead to 7-1 on goals by Mari Gunderson (7:11) and Christine Wicker (18:16). The Royals scored their second goal of the game with :01 left on the clock when Bethany Murphy lit the lamp.

Gustavus outshot the Royals 55-21 in the game. Junior goaltender Kitty Hurley allowed two goals and made 19 saves. She improves to 5-1-1 on the season.
