Men’s Cross Country 13th at NCAA Regional

The Gustavus men's cross country team closed out its 2005 season Saturday with a 13th place finish at the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships hosted by Wartburg College. The Gusties accumulated 352 points at the meet, won by Nebraska Wesleyan. The Gusties were led by captain Alex Zupan (Jr., Monona, Wis.) who posted a 20th place finish with a time of 26:19.70.

Women’s Swimming and Diving Downs Saint Mary’s, 146-71; Finishes Second at St. Kate’s

The Gustavus women's swimming and diving team wrapped up a successful weekend Saturday with a 146-71 dual win at Saint Mary's and a second place finish in a quadrangular at St. Kate's. Gustavus returns to the pool at the University of Minnesota Invite November 18-19. The Gusties will also host Concordia-Moorhead in a dual November 19.

Men’s Hockey Holds On For 7-6 Win Over St. Scholastica

The Gustavus men's hockey team jumped out to a 7-2 lead after two periods, but needed to fend off a late rally to beat the College of St. Scholastica, 7-6, in Duluth on Friday night to continue their best start since the 1991-92 season. Sophomore Sami Idris (Gothenberg, SWE) led the Gusties with a pair of goals and an assist. Gustavus improves to 3-0-0 on the season and will make the short trip to Superior, Wisconsin to face UW-Superior on Saturday evening.

Three Gusties Named to All-MIAC Men’s Soccer Team, Bobby Kroog Named MIAC MVP

Three Gustavus men's soccer players were named to the MIAC All-Conference team for the 2005 season. Senior midfielder Bobby Kroog (Bloomington, Minn.) was named the MIAC's Most Valuable Player and earned all-conference honors for the third year in a row. Seniors Jon Astry (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Jordan Iblings (Plymouth, Minn.) were also named to the first team, while senior forward Caleb Bousu (Burnsville, Minn.) and sophomore midfielder Jeffrey Johnson (Tonka Bay, Minn.) received honorable mention.

Relay Win Allows Men’s Swimming and Diving to Edge St. Olaf, 122-120

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team used a 1-2 finish in the 400 freestyle relay to post a 122-120 come-from-behind win over MIAC rival St. Olaf on Friday night at the Lund Natatorium in St. Peter. The Gustavus 'B' relay, anchored by junior Scott Hagemeyer edged the Gustavus 'A' relay anchored by junior Brian Amundson by a margin of 0.35 seconds for the win. Both relays finished ahead of the Ole 'A' team.

Women’s Swimming and Diving Falls To St. Olaf, 136-80

The Gustavus women's swimming and diving team picked up wins in four of thirteen events and runner-up finishes in a total of six races, but could not overcome St. Olaf, falling 136-80 in a dual Friday night in St. Peter. The Gusties drop to 0-2 in duals on the season and will be back in action Saturday afternoon, splitting the squad between a dual with Saint Mary's in Winona and a quadrangular with Hamline, Carleton and host St. Kate's. Both meets start at 1 p.m.

Men’s Soccer Advances With 1-0 Victory Over Hope

The Gustavus men's soccer team has relied on its seniors all season long and they came through yet again as the Gusties defeated Hope College (Mich.) 1-0 in a NCAA First Round game Friday in Whitewater, Wis. Senior Caleb Bousu headed in his ninth goal of the season in the 68th minute to provide the game's lone goal. Fellow senior Chris Pinahs was credited with the assist. Gustavus advances to play Wheaton (Ill.) in a second-round match-up Saturday, November 12 at 1 p.m. in Whitewater.

Men’s NCAA Soccer Match Will Be Broadcast Via Internet

The Gustavus men's NCAA soccer match against Hope College on Friday, November 11 in Whitewater, Wisconsin will be broadcast through the Gustavus website. The broadcast will begin at 1:15 pm.

Men’s Basketball Team To Play Alumni In a Benefit for Cancer Research/SADD

The Gustavus men's basketball team will host an alumni game to benefit cancer research and Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3:00 p.m. at Gus Young Court. There will be no admission, however cash donations will be accepted at the door.

Seniors Excited About Final Shot at NCAA Tournament

The Gustavus men's soccer team was given new life Monday morning when the NCAA selection committee granted them an at-large bid to the 2005 NCAA Tournament. Gustavus' season will continue with a first round match against Hope College (Mich.) in Whitewater, Wisconsin on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
