Miron Named MIAC Defensive Player of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus junior linebacker Adam Miron (Princeton, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Football Player of the Week for the weekend of November 10-12. Miron registered 14 tackles (six solo, eight assisted) and recovered a fumble that led to a Gustavus touchdown to help the Gusties defeat Bethel 24-22 in their season finale.

Boughton Named to All-MIAC Women’s Soccer Team

Gustavus Adolphus College senior goalkeeper Tori Boughton (Edina, Minn.) has been named to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer All-Conference team for the 2005 season. Junior midfielder Amy Larson (Bloomington, Minn.) and sophomore forward Jenna Iaizzo (White Bear Lake, Minn.) received honorable mention honors.

Hanson Named MIAC Swimmer of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus sophomore swimmer Ben Hanson (Minnetonka,Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 13. Hanson played a major part in Gustavus' 122-120 dual win over St. Olaf on Friday, November 11. He won the 500 and 1000 freestyle races and swam a crucial leg on a second-place 400-freestyle relay team that secured the victory in the dual.

Hailey Harren Takes First at Central Regional Meet

The Gustavus women's cross country team had a strong showing at the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships Saturday, finishing sixth as a team and placing three runners in the top 15 with two advancing to next weekend's NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University. Junior Hailey Harren and senior Kourtney Joyce advance to the NCAA Championships after finishing first and fifth, respectively.

Men’s Hockey Falls to UW-Superior 5-3

The Gustavus men's hockey team took a 2-0 lead after one period on a pair of power-play goals by senior defensemen Keith Detlefsen, but could not hold on for the win, falling to UW-Superior, 5-3, Saturday night in Superior,Wis. UW-Superior scored four straight goals in the second period to take the lead and added an empty net goal late in the third to secure the victory and hand the Gusties (3-1) their first loss of the season.

Men’s Soccer Will Play Loras in Grand Rapids, Michigan This Weekend

The Gustavus men's soccer team will face Loras College in Grand Rapids, Michigan this weekend in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The Gustavus-Loras match is slated for 11 a.m. (EST) on Friday, November 18 with the second game between host Calvin College and Fredonia State (N.Y.) to start 30 minutes after the completion of the first. Friday's winners will play in the sectional final on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the opportunity to play in the NCAA Final Four set for Nov. 25-26 in Greensboro, N.C.

Women’s Hockey Defeats Pointers, 4-3

The Gustavus women's hockey team found itself down 2-0 to UW-Stevens Point halfway through the first period, but rebounded to defeat the Pointers, 4-3, Saturday night at Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Molly Doyle scored a pair of goals, while Margaret Dorer scored the game-winning goal with 8:47 remaining in the game. The Gusties improve to 2-1 on the season, while UW-Stevens Point suffered its first loss of the season, falling to 3-1 overall.

Men’s Swimming and Diving Defeats Saint Mary’s; Wins at St. Kate’s

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team wrapped up a successful weekend Saturday with a 135-22 dual win at Saint Mary's and a first place finish in a triangular at St. Kate's. Between the two events, four Gusties posted three wins—Scott Hagemeyer and Peter Stauduhar at Saint Mary's and Brian Amundson and Ben Hanson at St. Kate's. Gustavus returns to the pool with the University of Minnesota Invite November 18-19.

Women’s Swimming and Diving Downs Saint Mary’s, 146-71; Finishes Second at St. Kate’s

The Gustavus women's swimming and diving team wrapped up a successful weekend Saturday with a 146-71 dual win at Saint Mary's and a second place finish in a quadrangular at St. Kate's. Gustavus returns to the pool at the University of Minnesota Invite November 18-19. The Gusties will also host Concordia-Moorhead in a dual November 19.

Men’s Cross Country 13th at NCAA Regional

The Gustavus men's cross country team closed out its 2005 season Saturday with a 13th place finish at the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships hosted by Wartburg College. The Gusties accumulated 352 points at the meet, won by Nebraska Wesleyan. The Gusties were led by captain Alex Zupan (Jr., Monona, Wis.) who posted a 20th place finish with a time of 26:19.70.
