The Gustavus volleyball team dropped their third straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Wednesday night with a 30-26, 30-27, 30-22 loss to St. Olaf in Northfield.
The Oles picked up 21 kills to Gustavus’ 12 in game one, forging a 30-26 victory. In game two, the Gusties out-hit St. Olaf .324 to .208, but could not come away victors as the Oles registered three more kills than Gustavus, 18-15.
St. Olaf took control of the match in earnest in game three, hitting .513 in the game while committing only one attack error. The Oles hit .298 for the match.
Sophomore Andrea Kron (Cold Spring, Minn.) led the Gusties offensively with 12 kills and three solo blocks, while juniors Becca Thompson (Mankato, Minn.) and Jami Moseng (Montevideo, Minn.) each chipped in with nine kills. Junior Ashley Dennis led St. Olaf with 13 kills and 15 digs.
St. Olaf improves to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC, while Gustavus falls to 9-8 overall and 3-4 in the league. The Gusties and Oles will both play in the MIAC-IIAC Border Battle Tournament beginning Friday afternoon in St. Peter. Gustavus will face Luther at 2 p.m. and Simpson at 6 p.m., while the Oles will meet Loras at 4 p.m. and the University of Dubuque at 8 p.m.
