Wade Vrieze named MIAC Baseball Player of the Week

Gustavus sophomore Wade Vrieze has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the period ending May 9th. Vrieze went 11-for-19 at the plate (.578) to help the Gusties post a record of 4-1 in five games last week.

Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore outfielder Wade Vrieze (Richfield, Minn.) went 11-for-19 at the plate (.578) to help the Gusties post a record of 4-1 in five games last week. The lone loss was to MSU, Mankato, which is ranked 5th in the Division II Central Region. Vrieze went 2-for-4 with 2 rbi in the 22-4 loss to MSU, Mankato on Tuesday. He then went 1-for-4 with 2 rbi in the Gusties 6-1 win in game one over Hamline and then Vrieze went 2-for-3 with a home run in the 6-2 win in game two. This weekend Vrieze went 6-for-10 as Gustavus swept Simpson College (5-2 and 8-5). He drove in four runs and scored twice. Vrieze is in the midst of a 10-game hitting streak. He has been a big part of the Gusties posting a record of 9-1 in that 10-game streak. Vrieze leads Gustavus in hitting with a batting average of .400 (36-for-90).
