Women’s Swimming in 13th Place After Second Day of NCAA Championships

The Gustavus women’s swimming team has compiled 79.5 points and is in 13th place at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. The championships will conclude on Saturday.

The Gustavus swimming and diving team are in 13th place after the first two days of competition at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. Head coach Jon Carlson’s squad currently has 79.5 points, which puts them on pace to break the school record of most points scored at the national meet. The Gusties set the record in 2004 with 82 points and a 13th place finish.

Gustavus competed in two relay events and one individual event on Friday at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. The 200 medley relay team won the consolation final and placed ninth overall with a time of 1:47.04. The team consisted of Sara Pfau, Eva Miller, Katie Garvey and Beth DeLaRosby. The team of Katie Garvey, Beth DeLaRosby, Laura Watkins and Sara Pfau placed 16th in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:56.55.

Individually, Eva Miller competed in the consolation final for the 100 breaststroke. Miller recorded a time of 1:06.58 to place 13th overall and secure crucial points for the Gusties.

The championships will conclude on Saturday, March 12. Gustavus will be competing in the 400 freestyle relay on Saturday. The Gusties are ranked third heading into tomorrow’s prelims. Individually, Gustavus will have three swimmers competing on the final day of competition. Beth DeLaRosby and Katie Garvey will compete in the 100 freestyle, while Eva Miller will compete in the 200 breaststroke.
