Women’s Swimming in Eighth Place After First Day at NCAA Championships

The Gustavus women’s swimming team compiled 55.5 points at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships and is in eighth place after the first day of competition. The national meet is taking place at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team is in eighth place after the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. The Gusties scored 55.5 points after competing in two relays and one individual event. The national meet is taking place at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

Coach Jon Carlson’s squad posted its best relay finish in school history by placing second in the 200-yard freestyle relay Thursday night. The team of Beth DeLaRosby, Katie Garvey, Laurie Decknatel, and Laura Watkins were just four-hundredths of a second behind first place Carleton. The Gusties posted a time of 1:35.63, while Carleton won the title with a time of 1:35.59.

In the 400-yard medley relay, the team of Sara Pfau, Eva Miller, Katie Garvey, and Beth DeLaRosby placed 14th overall with a time of 4:00.22.

Individually, Beth DeLaRosby and Katie Garvey scored valuable points for the Gusties in the 50-yard freestyle. DeLaRosby tied for sixth overall with a time of 24.00, while Garvey placed 14th with a time of 24.64.

The championships will continue tomorrow and will conclude on Saturday. On Friday in the relays, Gustavus will be competing in the 200-yard medley and the 800-yard freestyle. Individually, Eva Miller will be competing in the 100-yard breaststroke.
