The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the men’s hockey post-season awards last week and Gustavus junior defenseman Keith Detlefsen (Lakeville, Minn.) has been named to all-conference team for the second consecutive season. Detlefsen was the top scoring defenseman in the MIAC and led his team in scoring with 38 points.
For the season, Detlefsen recorded 13 goals and 25 assists for 38 points. The junior ranked second in assists with 25 and ninth in goals with 13. The defenseman tallied five goals and 13 assists on the power play to rank second overall in the conference.
In conference games only, Detlefsen ranked in the top ten in four statistical categories. The junior led the league in scoring with 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points, which also made him the top scoring defenseman. He scored 4 goals and recorded 10 assists for 14 points on the power play to tie for first in power play points.
The Gustavus men’s hockey team ended the 2004-05 season with an overall record of 10-15-1 and 7-8-1 in the MIAC. The Gusties made their fourth consecutive appearance in the MIAC post-season tournament. Coach Brett Petersen’s squad entered the tournament as the number five seed and traveled to Northfield to play the number four seed St. Olaf. The season ended for Gustavus with a 3-2 loss to St. Olaf in the first round of the conference tournament.
