The Gustavus women’s basketball team will play Saint Mary’s University in the first round of the MIAC Playoffs on Monday night in Winona, Minn. You can listen to the game via the Saint Mary’s website.
The Gusties enter the game as the #5 seed, while the Cardinals are the #4 seed. Gustavus enters with a record of 14-9 overall and 12-8 in the MIAC, while Saint Mary’s has compiled a record of 17-7 overall and 13-7 in the MIAC.
The Gusties are led by sophomore post Bri Monahan, senior post Kristin Kachelmyer and first year guard Jess Vadnais. Monahan is averaging 14.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, while Kachelmyer is contributing 13.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, and Vadnais is adding 12.2 points per game.
Gustavus dropped two games to Saint Mary’s during the regular season, falling 60-53 in Winona on January 5 and losing 61-55 in St. Peter on February 5. It is the first time that the Gusties have lost twice to St. Mary’s in a single season since 1993-94.
The winner of tonight’s first round game will play on Wednesday, February 23 at 7:30 pm at either Carleton or Concordia.
