The Gustavus women’s nordic skiing team will travel to Camp Ripley near Little Falls, Minn. to compete in the fourth NCAA qualifier of the season on February 12-13. The race was originally slated to be held at the Graystone Nordic Ski Complex in St. Cloud, but limited snow conditions, have forced the race to be moved north to the Camp Ripley trails.
The Gusties were last in action on January 29-30 in Cable, Wis. at the third NCAA qualifier of the season. The Gusties tallied 96 points at the Telemark Resort to place fourth overall for the second consecutive weekend. The Gusties finished just four points behind third place University Alaska-Fairbanks. Northern Michigan recorded 146 points to finish in first place at the qualifier.
In the classic race on Saturday, January 29, the Gusties placed four individuals in the top 20. Senior Kelly Damrow placed 11th with a time of 41:20.58 and junior Chandra Daw finished just two seconds behind Damrow to place 12th overall. First-years Kathleen Dewahl and Laura Edlund rounded out the top twenty by placing 18th and 20th, respectively. The Gusties compiled 52 points to place fourth out of nine teams in the classic race.
On Sunday in the 10k freestyle race, Chandra Daw led the Gusties with a time of 27:02.07 which placed her 11th overall. Kelly Damrow placed 14th overall with a time of 27:44.67. Nichole Olson placed 18th overall for the Gusties in her first race of the season. The Gusties tallied 44 points on Sunday in the freestyle race to place third overall.
