Women’s Basketball Hangs On For a 78-62 Win Over St. Olaf

The Gustavus women’s basketball team went on a 24-6 run to end the game and wrap up a 78-62 win over St. Olaf on Wednesday night. Bri Monahan led the Gusties with 26 points and eight rebounds, while Kristin Kachelmyer added 24 points.

Bri Monahan led the Gusties with 26 points and eight rebounds, going 8-13 from the field and 9-10 from the free throw line. Kristin Kachelmyer followed up her career-high 27 point performance on Monday with 24 points against the Oles. Lacy Skoog also added nine points and eight assists. Kristy Larson led the Oles with 16 points and three blocks on the night.

The Gusties shot just over 32% from the field in the first half, but relied on solid free throw shooting to give them an 11-point lead at halftime. St. Olaf came back to tie the game with eight minutes remaining in the game, but a 24-6 run by the Gusties closed out the game. Bri Monahan scored 15 of her 26 points in the final eight minutes to lead the Gusties to a 78-62 victory.

With the win, Gustavus improves to 14-7 overall and 12-6 in the MIAC, while St. Olaf falls to 7-14 overall and 6-11 in the conference. The Gusties’ next matchup will take place on Saturday when Gustavus takes on Augsburg in the final home game of the season. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in St. Peter.
