The Gustavus women’s hockey team stayed unbeaten in MIAC play with a 7-1 win over Concordia in St. Peter on Friday night. Andrea Peterson and Kelly Crandall scored two goals each to lead the Gusties who have now won 27 straight MIAC regular season games.

The Gusties led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Kelly Crandall at :29 and Andrea Peterson at 10:56. The Cobbers got a goal from Ashley Anderson at the 12:23 mark. Gustavus outshot the Cobbers 20-3 in the first period.

The second period was all Gustavus as Coach Mike Carroll’s squad scored three goals to extend its lead to 5-1 while outshooting the Cobbers 15-1. The Gustie goals were scored by Laura Stypulkowski (7:20), Becky Steiner (12:40) and Jaclyn Dufault (19:30).

The fifth-ranked Gusties scored two more goals in the final period to claim the 7-1 victory. Andrea Peterson tallied her second goal of the game at the 2:44 mark and Kelly Crandall slapped in her second goal at the 5:27 mark. Gustavus outshot Concordia 18-4 in the third period and finished the game by outshooting the Cobbers 53-8.

Danielle Koopman picked up the win in the nets for Gustavus. She recorded seven saves. Jamie Savage, who turned away 46 shots for the Cobbers, suffered the loss.

Gustavus improves to 15-2-1 overall and 11-0-0 in the MIAC, while Concordia falls to 4-13-0 overall and 3-8-0 in the MIAC.

The two teams will play the second and final game of the series at 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
