The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team will face St. Mary’s University in another key MIAC series this weekend. The Gusties, who are currently ranked #3 in the USCHO.com poll, are coming off a two-game sweep of St. Olaf. The sweep improves Gustavus’ overall record to 11-1-1, with a conference record of 8-0-0. Coach Carroll’s squad is first in the MIAC with 16 points, and has only allowed 15 goals in their 13 games. Gustavus is led in scoring by senior forward Laura Stypulkowski (3g, 20a) and first-year forward Molly Doyle (11g, 12a) both with 23 points. Sophomore defender Andrea Peterson is close behind with 22 points (12g, 10a). Peterson scored her fifth game-winning goal of the season last Saturday against St. Olaf.
St. Mary’s comes into the weekend with a record of 6-7-0 overall, and 4-4-0 in the MIAC. The Cardinals swept Hamline last weekend, which moved them into a fifth place tie with St. Benedict. St. Mary’s is led in scoring by sophomore forward Melissa Mondo who has compiled 10 points (6g, 4a). Sophomore goaltender Nikki Jung is also a key part of the Cardinals success with a 5-4-0 record, saving over 91% of the shots she has faced.
Gustavus leads the all-time series with St. Mary’s having compiled a record of 14-5-3. The Gusties swept the series last year posting a 4-1 win in Winona and compiling a 3-0 victory in St. Peter. In the past four years, Gustavus has posted an 8-2-2 mark against the Cardinals. During that stretch, the Gusties are 5-0-2 at home and 3-2-0 in Winona.
