Women’s Basketball Wins Third Straight Against St. Kate’s 78-56

The Gustavus women’s basketball team won their third straight game to stay undefeated in conference play with a 78-56 win over St. Kate’s. Four Gusties posted double figures, including sophomore post Bri Monahan who led the team with 19 points.

The Gustavus women’s basketball team won their third straight game to stay undefeated in conference play with a 78-56 win over St. Kate’s. Four Gusties posted double figures, including sophomore post Bri Monahan who led the team with 19 points. With the win, Gustavus improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC, while St. Kate’s falls to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Joining Monahan to lead the Gusties were senior post Kristin Kachelmyer who recorded 14 points and sophomore post Erin Boese with 12 points. Each of the players also grabbed nine rebounds. Junior guard Sara Boldt added 10 points to the Gusties’ win.

The team shot 49.2% (30 of 61) from the field, but only 12.5% (2 of 16) from three-point range. The Gusties, however, shot an impressive 80% (16-20) from the free throw line.

Coach Mickey Haller’s squad will be back in action on Wednesday against a St. Thomas squad that is currently 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in St. Peter.
