The Gustavus women’s soccer team had its three-match unbeaten string snapped by #22 Macalester as the Scots claimed a 3-0 win in St. Peter. Macalester improves to 13-1-1 on the season and 9-0-1 in the MIAC, while Gustavus falls to 3-9-2 overall and 2-7-0 in the MIAC.
The Gusties held highly ranked Macalester scoreless for the first twenty-five minutes of the game, but the Scots exploded for three goals in the next 15 minutes to tacke control of the match.
Annie Borton opened the scoring for the Scots at 28:56 with an assist from Sarah Marsh. Meghan Leahey gave Macalester a 2-0 lead when she converted a penalty kick at 39:19. The Scots scored their third and final goal at 41:45 when Erin Hoople found the net with an assist from Amy Hutchinson.
Macalester outshot Gustavus 15-6 and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Tori Boughton made six saves in goal for Gustavus, while Louisa Bigelow made three saves and picked up the shutout.
