Men’s soccer plays to scoreless tie with Oles

The Gustavus men’s soccer opened up conference play on Wednesday afternoon with a 0-0 tie againt St. Olaf College at Rolf Mellby Field in Northfield, Minnesota. The Gusties extend their unbeaten streak to 22 games.

The Gustavus men’s soccer team opened up conference play on Wednesday afternoon with a 0-0 tie againt St. Olaf College at Rolf Mellby Field in Northfield, Minnesota. The game was played in windy and soggy conditions as both teams were unable to manufacture a goal in regulation. The game was sent into overtime and Gusties held the majority of possession creating several chances but were unable to convert.

The best opportunity in overtime for the Gusties was provided by Jon Astry. The Oles attempted to clear the ball out of the box and Astry struck the ball one-time with his right foot. St. Olaf goalkeeper Kyle Trimble stretched out and tipped the ball over the bar to force a corner kick.

Andy Moulton recorded three saves in net for the Gusties to earn his third shutout of the season.

The Gusties extend their unbeaten streak to 22 games. Head coach Larry Zelenz’s squad has shutout 18 of its last 22 opponents and outscored them 51-4. Gustavus will be back in action on Saturday against Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.
