The Gustavus baseball team opened the MIAC Tournament with a thrilling come-from-behind 7-6 win over Concordia in the first round and then lost a heartbreaker to St. Thomas 4-2 in the second round.
In game one, Gustavus rallied from a 6-1 deficit to claim the 7-6 win. The Gusties scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to secure the victory.
In game two, the Gusties trailed 2-0, but solo home runs by Tony Konicek and Tyler Vrieze knotted the score at 2-2 heading into the ninth. The Tommies manufactured the winning run on a delayed steal with two outs in the top of the ninth.
The Gusties will now play St. Olaf, which eliminated Concordia with a 7-0 win in the consolation bracket on Friday night. Gametime is 1:00 pm on Saturday in Dundas, Minnesota (near Northfield). The winner will play St. Thomas at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
