Gustavus sophomore pitcher Josh Spitzack has been named Co-MIAC Pitcher of the Week after hurling a two-hit shutout against first place St. Olaf last Saturday. The Gusties are currently 21-12 overall and 9-7 in the MIAC.
Spitzack (West Concord, Minn./Triton HS) picked a perfect time to turn in his best performance of the season. The sophomore pitched a two-hit shutout against league-leading St. Olaf to help Gustavus claim a 1-0 win. He was nearly perfect on the mound as he struck nine and walked one in seven innings of work. The Gusties went on to sweep the Oles by winning the second game 4-3 and move back into the playoff chase. Spitzack is 4-3 on the season with an earned run average of 4.85.
Spitzack shared MIAC Pitcher of the Week honors with Jeremy Hinderks of Concordia.
