The Gustavus Adolphus softball team swept Macalester College 4-1 and 19-0 on Monday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties out hit the Scots 22-12 in the doubleheader and improved to 9-1 in the MIAC and 15-9 overall.
The Gusties got on the board quickly in the first game scoring two runs in the first inning. Ingrid Olson led off with a single and swiped her 11th stolen base of the year to move into scoring position. Olson scored on a passed ball to put the Gusties up 1-0. Molly Biehn cranked her first double of the game and scored on Claire Mielke’s hit.
Biehn got her second double of the day and drove in Audrey Lenoch to make the score 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning. Janie Hanson singled in the bottom of the sixth and drove in Lenoch to score the final run for Gustavus. Molly Biehn struck out eight batters and gave up six hits and one run in the first game to earn her ninth win of the season.
Gustavus took care of business at the plate in the second game recording 16 hits in five innings of play. Audrey Lenoch had three hits in four at-bats driving in five runs for the Gusties. Lenoch recorded her fifth home run of the year in the second inning.
Sara Medved earned her sixth win of the season allowing one hit in three innings pitched. At the plate, Medved had two hits in three at-bats, including a three-run homerun in the second inning.
