Jon Carlson Named MIAC Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year

Gustavus Adolphus men’s swimming and diving head coach Jon Carlson has been named the MIAC Men’s Swim Coach of the Year by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference swim coaches. Carlson’s squad claimed its third consecutive MIAC title.

Gustavus Adolphus men’s swimming and diving head coach Jon Carlson was named the MIAC Men’s Swim Coach of the Year by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference swim coaches. Carlsonss squad won its third consecutive MIAC title. The meet was held February 12-14 at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Gusties claimed seven individual titles and four relay team titles to tally 909.5 team points. It is Carlson’s 14th season as the head coach of men’s swimming and diving at Gustavus.

Carlson has guided the team to one of the most successful seasons in school history. Gustavus swimmers set three meet records (50 free, 400 free relay and 400 medley relay), and ten school records at the conference meet. This is the fourth time in the past five years that Carlson has directed the Gusties to the MIAC Championship. As a result of their efforst at the conference meet,
the Gusties will now send eight swimmers to the NCAA Division III Championships, which will take place in St. Louis, Missouri from March 18-20.

In addition, to coaching the men’s swimming team, Carlson is also head coach of the women’s swimming and women’s tennis teams. He has received MIAC Coach of the Year honors with each team.
