Women’s Hockey Defeats St. Ben’s 6-1

The Gustavus Adolphus women’s hockey team defeated St. Ben’s 6-1 on Saturday night at Don Roberts Ice Arena in St. Peter, Minn. Laura Stypulkowski led the Gusties with three goals.

The Gustavus Adolphus women’s hockey team defeated St. Ben’s 6-1 on Saturday night at Don Roberts Ice Arena in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties end the regular season 16-2-0 in the MIAC and 20-5-0 overall, while the Blazers end their season 4-12-2 in the MIAC and 6-14-2 overall.

Laura Stypulkowski lit the lamp for the first time at 9:35 of the first period. Stypulkowski’s first goal was assisted by Ingrid Neve. Leah Erickson doubled the score with a goal at 12:00 of the first period. Stypulkowski tallied her second goal of the night at 17:56 of the first period. The Gusties out-shot the Blazers 22-1 in the first twenty-minutes of play and held a 3-0 lead.

Jess Brandanger found the net at 4:23 of the second period. Abby Randall and Katie Deschneau assisted on Brandanger’s goal. Stypulkowski found the net for the third time at 15:13 of the third period to put the Gusties up 5-0. Katie Ponsolle scored the only goal for the Blazers on the power-play at 17:02 of the second period. Abby Randall recorded the final goal of the game at 9:38 of the third period to give the Gusties the 6-1 victory.

Gustavus has won 16 consecutive MIAC games out-scoring its opponents 87-10. The Gusties are the #2 seed in the MIAC post-season tournament and will host #3 seed St. Olaf on Thursday, February 4.
