Men’s Tennis Defeats Washington and Lee 7-0 at National Indoor Meet

The Gustavus men’s tennis team defeated Washington and Lee University 7-0 in the first round of the ITA Division III Team Indoor Championship being held at the Swanson Tennis Center on the Gustavus campus.

The top four seeds held true in the first day of the ITA Division III Team Championship as #1 Emory defeated MIT 5-2, #2 Gustavus defeated Washington and Lee 7-0, #3 UC-Santa Cruz defeated Bates 7-0 and #4 Trinity edged Washington University 4-3. Emory will now face Trinity and Gustavus will square off with UC-Santa Cruz in the tournament semifinals on Saturday at 2:00 pm.

Host Gustavus opened with an impressive 7-0 win over Washington and Lee. The Gusties earned the doubles point with wins by Adam Morgan and Brett Morse-Karzen at #1 and Kyle Anderson and Roy Bryan at #3. The Gusties sealed the victory with singles wins by Loren Collins (#1), Adam Morgan (#2) and Ben Lundell (#3). Lundell was seriously challenged by John Malooly of Washington and Lee, but Lundell prevailed in three sets, 6-7, 6-2, 7-5. Gustavus closed out the match with straight set wins by Brett Morse-Karzen at #4, Kyle Anderson at #5 and Jesse Brauer at #6.
