The Gusties, who finished third in the league standings with a record of 18-4, are the #3 seed in the tournament. The Tommies, who finished sixth with a record 12-10, are the #6 seed. The winner of this game will advance to play in the tournament semifinals on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm. If the Gusties win they would face Carleton in Northfield, if the Tommies win they would play St. Ben’s in Saint Joseph.
This will be the second opening round contest in MIAC Playoff action for the Gusties. Gustavus defeated Saint Mary’s in St. Peter two years ago. Last year, the Gusties received a first round bye due to fact that they were the #2 seed in the tournament.
This will be the third meeting this season between Gustavus and St. Thomas. The Gusties have won both of the previous two meetings claiming a 75-69 win in St. Paul on January 7 and then posting a 72-64 victory in St. Peter on February 7. Gustavus is currently 20-5 overall, while St. Thomas is 13-12.
