Men’s Hockey Defeats St. Olaf 4-1

The Gustavus Adolphus men’s hockey team defeated St. Olaf 4-1 on Saturday night in St. Peter, Minn. Keith Detlefsen and Joe Ulwelling each had two assists in Saturday night’s conference win against St. Olaf.

The Gustavus Adolphus men’s hockey team defeated St. Olaf 4-1 at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter, Minn. Saturday night. The Gusties improve to 10-8-3 overall and 7-3-2 in the MIAC, while St. Olaf falls to 7-10-4 overall and 4-5-3 in the MIAC.

Gustavus had lost its last two games and were not about to make it three as they skated to the 4-1 win at home on Saturday night. The Gusties took the lead at 5:48 of the first period with a goal from Jason Watters . Keith Detlefsen and Joe Ulwelling assisted on the power-play goal.

Gustavus put the pressure on St. Olaf recording 16 shots in the second period. The Gusties got their second goal of the night at 17:30 of the second period from Reegan Rehm. Keith Detlefsen and Loren Havemeir were credited with the assist.

Adam Meyer lit the lamp at 7:23 of the third period to score the second power-play goal of the night for the Golden Gusties. Jerod Klava and Matt Duncan assisted on the power-play goal. Steve Dusich scored the fourth and final goal for Gustavus at 8:50 of the third period. Joe Ulwelling recorded his second assist of the night on Dusich’s goal. St. Olaf scored its only goal at 10:46 of the third period. Patrick Gilles recorded the goal for the Oles.

The Gusties outshot the Oles 39-23 on Saturday night. Garret Hasti came up with 35 saves for the Oles. Brett Sawyer made 22 saves for the Gusties and recorded his third win of the season.
