Women’s Tennis Falls to University of Hawaii 7-2

The Gustavus women’s tennis team lost to Division I University of Hawaii 7-2 in Honolulu Friday, February 6. The #1 doubles team of Tara Houlihan and Lyndsey Palen claimed the 8-4 win to lead the Gusties.

The Gustavus women’s tennis team lost to Division I University of Hawaii 7-2 in Honolulu Friday, February 6. The #1 doubles team of Tara Houlihan and Lyndsey Palen claim the 8-4 win to secure a point for the Gusties. Kara Smiley won by default in the #3 singles position to claim the second point for Gustauvs.

In singles play the Gusties were outpowered by the the Division I Rainbows. Jaimme Gaard had a competitive match at the #5 singles position losing 4-6 in both sets.

In doubles play the Gusties claimed the #1 singles point. The team of Tara Houlihan and Lyndsey Palen beat Jaros and Boulet 8-4. In the #2 position, Marla Menne and Kara Smiley lost 8-2 to Fitzgerald and Marnor. The team of Jaimee Gaard and Elissa Bashleben fell short in the #3 position losing 8-5.

Coach Carlson’s squad was scheduled to play Division II Bringham Young-Hawaii in Honolulu Thursday but the match was cancelled due to rain.

The Gusties will have two matches on Friday, February 13 including a road match against Iowa State (4:00 pm) and home match against Winona State (6:30 pm). Gustavus will also be in action Saturday hosting North Dakato (9:00am) and Nebraska-Omaha (1:30 pm) and on the road playing Creighton University (10:00 am) in Des Moines, Iowa.
