Men’s Hockey Defeats Concordia 4-2

The Gustavus Adolphus men’s hockey team defeated Concordia College 4-2 at Don Roberts Rink in St. Peter, Minn. Saturday afternoon. Tom Awaijane (Senior, Coon Rapids, Minn.) recorded the first hat-trick of his career in the conference win.

The Gustavus Adolphus men’s hockey team defeated Concordia College 4-2 at Don Roberts Rink in St. Peter, Minn. Saturday afternoon. Gustavus improve to 7-6-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the MIAC, while Concordia drop to 1-13-3 overall and 0-6-2 in the MIAC.

The Cobbers were the first to score with a goal from Dan Perry at 4:29 in the first period. Tom Awaijane responded 39 seconds later (5:08) for the Gusties. Awaijane’s first goal was assisted by Jason Watters. The Gusties out shot the Cobbers 12-6 in the first period.

The Gusties took the lead at 16:20 in the second period with a goal from Steve Dusich. The goal was assisted by Matt Duncan and Jerod Klava. Awaijane recorded his second goal with 39 seconds left in the second period to make the score 3-1 going into the break. Adam Myer assisted on the third goal.

The Cobbers tried to get back into the game right away in the third period by scoring in just 18 seconds. Jon Rudnick assisted the goal by Andy Vix. Awaijane completed his hat trick scoring at 12:20 in the third period. Brandon Buskowia and Nick Droogsma assisted on the goal.

The Gusties next game will be Friday, Jan. 30 at home versus Hamline. The Gusties lead the all-time series versus Hamline 75-12-1.
