Men’s and Women’s Swimming Teams Post First Place Finishes at Lawrence Invitational

The Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming teams each posted first place finishes at the Gene Davis Invitational hosted by Lawrence University on December 5-6.

The Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming teams each posted first place finishes at the Gene Davis Invitational hosted by Lawrence University on December 5-6. The men finished first out of 10 teams (1,270 points) and the women finished first out of eight teams (1,262 points).

Coach Jon Carlson’s squads dominated the meet as they claimed first place honors in 26 of the 40 events including 15 first place finishes for the men and 11 top finishes for the women. Individually, junior Will Sutor was the top male scorer in the meet with 60 points. Sutor posted wins in the 100 butterfly, the 200 butterfly and the 200 individual medley. For the women, junior Eva Miller was the second highest point scorer in the meet with 57 points. Miller finished first in both the 200 individually medley and 100 breaststroke and second in the 200 breaststroke.

The Gusties also set 19 meet records, 11 by the men and eight by the women and three pool records, two by the men and one by th e women. In addition, Will Sutor met the “B” cut for the NCAA Championships in the 100 butterfly, as did Beth DeLaRosby in the 50 freestyle and the women’s 200 free relay team of Katie Garvey, Laura Watkins, Eva Miller and Beth DeLaRosby.
