Women’s Hockey Team Splits Weekend Series with UW-Stevens Point

The Gustavus women’s hockey team split its weekend series with UW-Stevens Point this Friday and Saturday. The Gusties won Friday night 3-2 and the Pointers won Saturday afternoon 6-3.

The Gustavus women’s hockey team split its weekend series with seventh-ranked UW-Stevens Point this Friday and Saturday. The Gusties won Friday night 3-2 and the Pointers won Saturday afternoon 6-3.

Friday night Gustavus netted two first period goals and tacked on a second period goal to take a 3-0 lead. The Gusties held off a Pointer rally for the one-goal victory.

Blair Carlson, Andrea Peterson, and Ingrid Neve all netted goals for the Gusties. Jackie Foley and Ashley Howe scored for UW-Stevens Point. Gustavus outshot the Pointers 27-25.

Kristin Setterstrom took the win between the pipes while Amy Statz was saddled with the loss.

Saturday UW-Stevens Point bounced back with a three-goal win. With the game tied 3-3 midway through the third period, the Pointers scored one even-strength, one power play, and one empty net goal to put the game out of reach.

Head Coach Mike Carroll got two goals from Neve and one from Carlson. Six players scored for UW-Stevens Point: Jana Jurkovich, Tracy Truckey, Hilary Bulger, Jackie Schmitt, Ann Ninnemann, and Emily Teachout.

Gustie Kitty Hurley made her collegiate debut in relief of Kristin Setterstrom at goaltender. Hurley stopped 18 shots while allowing three goals in 50 minutes of play. Statz picked up the win for UW-Stevens Point by making 23 saves.

Following the weekend series, Gustavus is now 2-1-0 on the season. UW-Stevens Point is 3-1-1.

Gustavus returns to action on Friday, November 21 by opening up MIAC play at St. Thomas at 7:05 pm.
