Volleyball Team Sweeps Augsburg 3-0

The Gustavus women’s volleyball team remained in the hunt for a MIAC postseason playoff spot with an impressive 3-0 win over Augsburg in St. Peter. Senior outside hitter Jessica Schaetzke led the Gusties with 13 kills and five digs.

The Gustavus women’s volleyball team remained in the hunt for a MIAC postseason playoff spot with an impressive 3-0 win over Augsburg in St. Peter. The Gusties improved their record to 16-6 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC, while Augsburg fell to 2-17 overall and 0-7 in the MIAC.

The first game of the match was very competitive with Gusties using a late 4-0 run to claim a 30-25 victory. In the second game, Gustavus jumped out to a big early lead and then held on to post a 30-20 win. In the third and final game, the Gusties jumped out to 7-2 and 11-4 leads and then finished out the match by posting a 30-19 victory.

Senior outside hitter Jessica Schaetzke led the Gusties with 13 kills and five digs. Schaetzke moved into ninth place on the all-time career kills list with 1030. First year hitter Jami Moseng also had a big night as she contributed 10 kills, three digs and two blocks. Sophomore middle hitter Anne Osthus turned in a balanced performance with eight kills, five service aces, two digs and one block.
