The Gustavus men’s soccer team defeated Augsburg 3-0 in rainy and windy conditions in St. Peter on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties, who got goals from Jordan Iblings, Taylor Stein and Caleb Bousu, pushed their unbeaten string to seven consecutive matches. Gustavus improves to 11-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the MIAC, while Augsburg falls to 4-7-2 overall and 0-6-1 in the MIAC.
The Gusties jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Jordan Iblings at the 9:44 mark. Matt Broin picked up the assist on the goal. The score remained at 1-0 in favor of Gustavus until midway through the second half when Taylor Stein found the net to push the Gustie lead to 2-0. Broin was credited with his second assist of the game.
Gustavus closed out the scoring on a goal by Caleb Bousu at the 80:04 minute mark. Jordan Iblings picked up the assist. The Gusties outshot Augsburg 11-1 in the match and held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. Gustavus goalkeeper Nate Hitch picked up the win in the nets and recorded his fifth shutout of the season. Lucas Grant suffered the loss in the nets for Augsburg.
The Gusties extended their streak without allowing a goal to four games. Gustavus has not allowed a goal in 395 consecutive minutes dating back to a goal by St. John’s in the Gusties 3-1 win on September 27. In addition, Gustavus has allowed only two goals in its last 12 matches and only four all season (13 matches).
