Gustavus competed at the CCSA Regional Championships at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, Minnesota on Saturday, February 22. Gustavus took sixth in the 10K freestyle race with 47 points and fifth in the 10K classical race with 53 points. The Gusties finished sixth overall with 100 points. Both races were ran on Saturday due to expected cold temperatures on Sunday.
Kevin Patzoldt (FY, Grand Rapids, MN) was the first Gustie to cross the finish line in the freestyle event by finishing 23rd overall with a time of 28:15. Teammate Erich Ziegler (SO, Crystal Falls, MI) was right behind him in 24th place clocking in with a time of 28:22. Ziegler was also the top Gustavus finisher in the classical race by finishing 18th overall with a time of 28:07.
Northern Michigan edged the University of Alaska-Fairbanks for the team title with a combined team score of 166. UAF finished with 164 points. Gustavus had the second highest score of the MIAC schools, finishing one point behind St. Olaf 101-100.
