David Pearson and David Martinson Named To CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large TeamGustavus Adolphus College senior swimmer and junior hockey player David Martinson have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team as released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Pearson, a College Division First Team selection, and Martinson, a College Division Third Team selection, are the third and fourth Gustavus student-athletes to be named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans this year.
Swimmer Dave Pearson Selected To Receive A Prestigious NCAA Postgraduate ScholarshipThe National Collegiate Athletic Association announced on Monday that Gustavus Adolphus senior swimmer Dave Pearson has been named one of 29 men's winter sport recipients of a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Pearson, a two-time All-American as a member of the 800 free relay team, maintains a 4.0 gpa with a major in chemistry. He will attend medical school next fall at either the University of Minnesota or Washington University in St. Louis.
Senior Matt Stewart continued his strong performance at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a sixth place finish in the 200 freestyle on Thursday evening. Stewart posted a career best time of 1:38.49 which broke his own school and MIAC record of 1:39.21. Carrie Gundersen was the lone women's swimmer to compete on the day and she finished 40th in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:54.61.
The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team turned in several outstanding performances on the final day of the MIAC Championships, however the Gusties were not able to catch St. Olaf and had to settle for second place. The Oles took the top spot with 851 points followed by the Gusties with 738 points.

The women compiled a team gpa of 3.28 which was 37th best in Division III. The men compiled a team gpa of 3.15 which was 25th best in Division III.
Billy Schultze Named MIAC Swimmer of the WeekGustavus Adolphus College first-year Billy Schultze (Mankato, Minn./East) has been named co-MIAC Swimmer of the Week with Nathan Young of Macalester College. Schultze won two individual events and was a part of one winning relay at last Saturday's Saint John's Winter Invite.
The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team finished first out of three teams at the Saint John's Winter Invitational in Collegeville on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties won eight individual events and two relays at the meet including a sweep of the top three places in the 200 freestyle, the 200 butterfly, and the 500 freestyle. Matt Stewart led the squad with a trio of first place finishes including the 200 free, the 500 free and the 200 butterfly.
