SAINT PETER, Minn. — The Gusties proved just why they’re ranked No. 1 in the nation, rolling to their ninth straight win over Saint Mary’s Friday night. The Gusties earned their fifth shutout of the season, and added another power play goal to their league- and nation-leading total, thanks to a tally from Emily Olson (Sr., Delano).

Brooke Power (Jr., Lakeville) started the scoring for the Gusties, netting a rebound behind Cardinal goaltender and Saint Peter native Jordan Keeley just nine minutes into the game. Olson would add her first of the night just three minutes later, taking a feed from Hannah Gray (So., Stillwater) to bring the Gustie lead to two before the end of the first period.

The Cardinals would hold off the Gusties for the majority of the second, until Olson added her second tally, this time on the power play, as a shot from Brooke Remington (Jr., Scandia) would ricochet off Olson and into the net. Lily Mortenson (Fy., Champlin) sealed the deal in the third, scoring an empty net goal with less than a minute remaining in the game.

Olson ended the night with two goals and a plus-3 rating, while Sophia Coltvet (Jr., Arden Hills) and Gray would total two assists each on the night. The Cardinals put their best foot forward in the third, tallying a total of seven shots on net. Their efforts were no match for Katie McCoy (Sr., Grafton), though, who turned aside all 16 shots she faced in three periods of work for the Gusties.

The No. 1 Gusties, now 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the MIAC, head to Winona tomorrow for the 2 p.m. MIAC rematch between the two teams.
