Hastings, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team shot an opening round 326 (+34) on Saturday to rank third after day one of the College City Challenge.  Gustavus sits behind St. Thomas, which shot a 319 (+27) to lead the field, and Carleton, which turned in a round of 325 (+33) to stand second.  Saturday’s first round was played at Bellwood Oaks Golf Club, a 5,850-yard par 73 course, which is where tomorrow’s second round will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Sam Falk (Jr., Glenwood, Minn.) led the way for Gustavus on Saturday.  The junior totaled a first round score of 77 (+4) to lead all competitors.  Falk leads the field by one stroke.  St. Thomas’ Emma Wilson sits on the heels of Falk.  Wilson turned in a score of 78 (+5) in her opening round.

Chloe Altmann (So., Olivia, Minn.) finished the round five strokes behind Falk.  Altmann carded an opening round score of 82 (+9) to tie for ninth.  She is the only other Gustie who currently ranks in the top 10.

Tomorrow’s second round is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at Bellwood Oaks in Hastings, Minn.

“I think the key tomorrow is going to be consistency,” mentioned Head Coach Scott Moe of his team’s outlook.  “It seemed like each of our players had a bad hole or two, so if we can minimize those mistakes tomorrow we will be in good shape.”
