Women’s Golf Sixth After Day One Of Augustana Fall Invitational Posted on September 7th, 2013 by

Liz Strom turned in the best round of the day for the Gusties with a 78 (+7).

Sioux Falls, S.D. – Following the opening day of competition at the Augustana Fall Invitational, the Gustavus women’s golf team sits in sixth after turning in a round of 322 (+38) on Saturday morning.  Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State, Mankato sit atop the standings with an opening round 301 (+17).

Head coach Scott Moe is happy with his team’s performance in the opening round.  “We were better today,” said Moe.  “I think we still left some shots on the course, but with that being said, it is encouraging that our scores could have been lower.  We are also starting to show some more depth, which is great to see.”

Gustavus got a key contribution from Liz Strom (Jr., Fargo, N.D.), who led the team with a seven-over-par 78 on the day.  After not competing last weekend, Strom came back with Saturday’s strong performance to place in a tie for 15th.  Sam Falk (Jr., Glenwood, Minn.) and Lauren Johnson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) both recorded a ten-over-par 81 on Saturday and are tied for 27th.

Play will resume tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at Bakker Crossing Golf Course.  Tee times begin at 9:00 a.m.
