St. Augustine, Fla. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team suffered a 313-303 loss to Flagler College in a head-to-head dual held Friday at the Ponte Vedra Country Club.  Alex Kolquist (Sr., Hermantown, Minn.) led way for the Gusties in the men’s squad’s first outing of the spring season.  The senior shot an even par 72 to finish first alongside Flagler’s Spencer Schindler.

“It was a tough day today,” said head coach Scott Moe.  “The course was very difficult and with the weather as cold and windy as it was, it felt like we were back in Minnesota, not Florida.”

Trevor Gervais (Sr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) was next in line for the Black and Gold with a seven-over-par 79 for a fifth place finish.  Tyler McMorrow (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) and Andrew Oakes (Jr., Hermantown, Minn.) both finished with 81s (+9) to tie for eighth place.

“Alex played great and battled the elements like a champ,” said Moe.  “The rest of the team battled yet missed a few shots that cost us some strokes.  For the most part, I am pleased with the effort and it has been a great week of practice for us to kick off the spring.”

The Gustavus men’s golf team will be back on the links Saturday, April 13th when it takes part in a dual against Saint John’s.  The contest will be played at the Bear Path Country Club in Eden Prairie, Minn.
