The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team captured the team title at the UW-Eau Claire Fall Invitational Sunday with a school-record team total of 623. The Gusties fired a second-round 312 on the par 73, 6,118-yard Wild Ridge Course in Eau Claire, Wis. Host UW-Eau Claire had the next closest team score at 652, just a single stroke ahead of the University of St. Thomas which had the second best total Sunday at 322 to finish at 653.
Gustavus placed four players in the top five, led by junior Rachel Roberg (Rice Lake, Wis.). Roberg turned in the low round of the tournament on Sunday with a 75 to tie UW-Eau Claire’s Meghan Sobotta for medalist honors at 152. Sophomore Kimbra Kosak (Grand Rapids, Minn.) finished third with a two-day total of 156 after shooting 80 on Sunday. First-year Kali Griggs (Burnsville, Minn.) placed fourth after posting a second-round 79 for a 36-hole total of 157, while senior Breanne Staples (Windom, Minn.) finished in a fifth-place tie after shooting 80-78–158.
Sophomore Lauren Runsvold (Fargo, N.D.), playing as a individual, finished tied for 12th with matching 18-hole scores of 81.
Sunday’s team total of 312 is the fourth-best 18-hole team score in school history, while the 36-hole total of 623 bettered the previous school record of 624 set at last fall’s Division III Midwest Classic.
The Gusties will compete twice next weekend, participating in Friday’s Cobber Open at Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes, Minn., before playing in the Concordia Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9-10, also at Wildflower.
