It was déjà vu for the Gustavus men’s hockey team as it watched a third period lead fade away, forcing an overtime with St. Olaf on Saturday night and ending with another shootout loss. The 3-3 tie with St. Olaf moves the Gusties to 3-10-4 overall and 2-4-2 in the MIAC, along with one point in the league standings.

Men’s Hockey Ties St. Olaf 3-3, Falls In Shootout

Although the Gustavus men’s hockey team led 3-1 late in the third period Friday night, St. Olaf picked up its sense of urgency in the final minute, scoring a goal with 20 seconds remaining and then put in the game-tying goal with two seconds on the clock to force overtime. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the overtime period and the game went to a shootout. The Oles made their first and third shots to claim the shootout victory and two points in the MIAC standings. The tie gives the Gusties one point in the league standings as they move to 3-10-3 overall and 2-4-1 in the MIAC.

Men’s Hockey Returns To MIAC Play This Weekend Against St. Olaf

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s hockey team finalized its non-conference schedule last week and returns to MIAC play this weekend with an away-home series against St. Olaf College. The Gusties enter the series with a 3-10-2 overall record and 2-4 mark in the MIAC, while the Oles are 3-11-3 overall and 1-5-2 in the league. The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s hockey team hopes to get back in the win column this weekend as it hosts Parents Weekend at Don Roberts Ice Rink against a pair of WIAC opponents. The Gusties take on UW-Superior at 7:05 p.m. Friday followed by a 7:05 p.m. game Saturday against No. 10-ranked UW-River Falls. Gustavus enters with a 3-8-2 overall record after a 5-3 setback against UW-Stout last Saturday; UW-Superior comes to town with a 4-10-2 record after a close 3-2 loss against Saint John’s last Saturday; and UW-River Falls is 10-4-2 after a 1-0 victory over Concordia last Saturday.

The Gustavus men’s hockey team battled back and forth with the University of Wisconsin-Stout for the first two periods Saturday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink and held a one-goal lead, but the Blue Devils rallied for three third period goals, handing the Gusties a 5-3 loss. The Gusties fall to 3-8-2 overall, while the Blue Devils move to 7-4-3.
