Deja Vu, Men’s Hockey Ties Aurora 3-3

It was déjà vu all over for the Gustavus men’s hockey team as it tied Aurora 3-3 in overtime for the second straight game Saturday. The Gusties never trailed in the contest, but an Aurora goal midway through the third period proved to be the equalizer and neither team was able to find the back of the net the rest of the way. Gustavus moves to 6-4-3, while the Spartans move to 2-7-4.

Men’s Basketball Unable To Hold Late Lead, Falls To UM-Morris 76-71

Saturday’s men’s basketball non-conference tilt between Gustavus and Minnesota-Morris went down to the wire, but the home squad was unable to hold on to a late lead after making an 11-point comeback, losing 76-71. The Gusties led 71-70 with 2:15 to play in the game before the Cougars scored six unanswered points to close out the game. Gustavus moves to 6-4 overall, while UM-Morris improves to 4-7.

Women’s Basketball Tops UW-Superior 67-46, Coach Kelly Earns 100th Win At Gustavus

The Gustavus women’s basketball team got back to its winning ways Saturday afternoon, defeating Wisconsin-Superior 67-46 in the consolation game of the Wartburg Holiday Tournament. The victory marks the 100th in Head Coach Laurie Kelly’s sixth season at Gustavus as the Gusties improve to 9-2 overall. Kelly becomes the second fastest Gustavus head coach to collect 100 wins, reaching the mark after 144 games. Mickey Haller (2000-12) reached 100 wins after 142 games.

Men’s Hockey Opens Aurora Series With 3-3 Draw

The Gustavus men's hockey team battled back from a two-goal deficit and ended up in a 3-3 stalemate Friday evening in a non-conference game at Aurora University, moving its record to 6-4-2 overall. 

Late Rally Comes Up Short, Women’s Hoops Falls 68-60 To No. 11 UW-Whitewater

In a battle of nationally ranked women’s basketball teams, No. 17 Gustavus was unable to complete a fourth quarter comeback, losing 68-60 to No. 11 UW-Whitewater on Friday at the Wartburg Holiday Tournament. The Gusties got within two points of the lead with two minutes remaining in the contest after trailing by as many as 19, but the Warhawks closed out the game at the free throw line in the waning moments to remain perfect (10-0) on the season. Gustavus falls to 8-2 overall.

Men’s Hoops Returns From Break, Hosts UM-Morris

The Gustavus men’s basketball team is set to return from the holiday break hosting a non-conference game against the University of Minnesota-Morris Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court. The Gusties (6-3 overall) most recently had their five-game winning streak snapped, while the Cougars have won three-straight after opening the season on a seven-game losing skid (3-7 overall). 

Women’s Basketball Set For Highly Competitive Wartburg Holiday Tourney This Weekend

The Gustavus women’s basketball team is set to participate in a highly-competitive four-team invitational this weekend at the Wartburg Holiday Tournament in Waverly, Iowa. The Gusties face No. 11 UW-Whitewater at 4 p.m. Friday. The winner will face the winner of No. 4 Wartburg and UW-Superior at 3 p.m. Saturday, while the losers face each other at 1 p.m. Saturday. Gustavus enters the weekend 8-1 overall, while UW-Whitewater is 9-0, Wartburg is 9-0, and UW-Superior is 8-2.

Men’s Hockey Set For Non-Conference Series At Aurora

The Gustavus men’s hockey team returns to action this weekend, set for a non-conference series at Aurora University. The Gusties (6-4-1 overall, 5-1 MIAC) will opens the first ever game against the Spartans (2-7-2, 1-4-1 NCHA) at 6 p.m. on Friday. 

Women’s Basketball Cruises To 79-45 Win Over Coe

The Gustavus women’s basketball team wrapped up a six-game home stand Friday evening with a convincing 79-45 win over Coe College in non-conference action. The win moves the Gusties to 8-1 overall while Coe drops to 3-8.
