The Gustavus volleyball team made quick work of St. Olaf on Wednesday night, winning its seventh consecutive match in straight sets, improving to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Volleyball Travels To St. Olaf Tonight

The Gustavus volleyball team returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play tonight at St. Olaf. The Gusties enter the match with a 10-2 overall record and 1-0 mark in the MIAC, while the Oles are 7-7 overall and 0-1 in the league. Tonight’s match begins at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast online via the St. Olaf live streaming portal.

Chris Captain Named MIAC Men’s Golfer Of The Week

Gustavus men's golfer Chris Captain (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) rose to the occasion while competing against some of the nation's best with his top-five individual finish at the NCAA DIII Fall Preview in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Captain finished the three-day, 54-hole meet just one-over par, with a three-day total of 217 to sit alone in fifth place. He started with a plus-three 75, and then played spectacularly over the final two rounds with a two-under 70 on Monday and an even-par 72 to close out the round on Sunday. Captain was the top MIAC finisher in the 92-player field, and he helped Gustavus finish in a tie for 13th place as a team.

Men’s Golf Finishes 13th At NCAA Preview, Captain Takes Fifth Overall

The Gustavus men’s golf team wrapped up the NCAA Division III Fall Preview on Tuesday at the Mission Inn Resort with a third round score of 300 for a total of 910 (+46), taking 13th place out of 18 of the top teams in the country. The Gusties carded a 304 in the first round and a 306 in the second. Huntingdon College won the event with a 868, Wittenberg University took second at 889, and Guilford College placed third at 895.

Men’s Golf Moves Into 12th Place After Second Round At NCAA Preview

The Gustavus men’s golf team jumped into 12th place at the NCAA Division III Fall Preview on Monday, shooting a second round score of 306 for a two-round total of 610 (+34). Huntingdon College moved into the lead with a total score of 575, while Mary Hardin-Baylor and Wittenberg are tied for second with scores of 593.

Karim Ortiz Named MIAC Fooball Offensive Player Of The Week

Gustie running back Karim Ortiz (Jr., Cancun, Mexico) stepped into the starting lineup and into the spotlight in Saturday's 35-13, come-from-behind win over Augsburg. The junior had a tremendous day running the ball with 180 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries. Ortiz averaged 6.7 yards per carry, and his top highlight was a 43-yard touchdown run that got Gustavus on the board early in the third quarter as the team scored 35 unanswered points in the second half to surge to victory and remain undefeated (3-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC). Both the two touchdowns and 180 yards are career-best marks for Ortiz.

Holtan Earns Second Straight MIAC Volleyball Setter Of The Week Award

Nora Holtan (So., Rochester, Minn.) earned her second-straight MIAC Volleyball Setter/Libero-of-the-Week award as she led the Gusties to a 3-0 mark last week with 120 assists (10.00 per set), 26 digs and 22 kills. Holtan had a career night in the team's 3-2 upset of No. 12 Bethel to open MIAC play. The sophomore recorded an impressive triple-double with 55 assists (11.00 per set), had 16 kills with no errors (.593), and 22 digs, all career-highs for Holtan. She went on to add 65 assists over the weekend in a 3-0 win over Lakeland and a 3-1 win over Dominican to help her team improve to 10-2 this season (1-0 MIAC).

Men’s Golf In 14th After Day One At NCAA Preview

Competing against many of the best teams in the nation, the Gustavus men's golf team sits in 14th place after day one of the NCAA Division III Fall Preview, played at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort. The Gusties shot a collective 304 in the first round on Sunday, which is 23 strokes behind the leader Wittenberg University.
