St. Paul – Gustavus swimmer Alissa Tinklenberg (Willmar, Minn.) added another major highlight to her incredible collegiate career over the weekend at the Jean Freeman Invitational at the University of Minnesota. The Gustie senior set a new school record in the 100-yard backstroke and helped the 200-yard medley relay team set another Gustavus record, while winning a pair of individual events and finished in the top five in all seven of her events. For her record-breaking weekend, Tinklenberg was named the MIAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Athlete-of-the-Week.

Tinklenberg’s school record of 55.55 came in the 100-back prelims, and she won the event with a time of 55.95 in the finals. She also helped the 200-medley relay set a new school record with its time of 1:44.93 in a second-place finish. Tinklenberg also won the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.21) and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.29). She also helped the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.22) and 400-yard medley relay (3:51.84) finish third and the 400-yard freestyle relay finish fifth (3:33.77). Tinklenberg’s times in those seven individual events and relays all lead the MIAC this season, and the 2013 MIAC Women’s Swimmer-of-the-Year also ranks first in the 100-yard freestyle (51.99), second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.04) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (24.06).

The Gusties will now take nearly three weeks off for finals and the holiday break. They’ll return to action with a training trip to Puerto Rico from Dec. 28 to Jan. 5. Gustavus will return to competition in 2014, when it hosts Carleton in a dual meet on Jan. 10, followed by a trip to Decorah, Iowa, for the Luther Invitational the following day (Jan. 11).
