Women’s Golf Earns At-Large Bid Into NCAA Championships Posted on April 30th, 2012 by

Indianapolis, Ind. – The NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Committee announced 19 teams and six individuals that will participate in the 2012 Division III Women’s Golf Championships.  Among those 19 schools will be the Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team who qualifies for the NCAA Championships for the seventh consecutive season.

“It certainly was the call we were waiting for,” said Head Coach Scott Moe about receiving the news of an at-large bid. “We had a good feeling, but with only two spots available this year, you certainly never know for sure.”

“I’m excited for our opportunity to go out and compete.  With great leadership from three seniors and four of our players returning from last year’s NCAA Championships, it will be fun to see what the ladies can go and do.”

Eleven conferences were given automatic qualification and the remaining eight teams were selected on an at-large basis from conferences and the remaining independent schools. Six individuals, not from selected teams, also were selected for the championships.

The championships consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. The tournament will be contested across 72 holes of play during four days of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores from each team for each day will count in the team’s total score.

Participating teams in this year’s field include Allegheny, Baldwin-Wallace, Carroll (Wis.), Centre, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, DePauw, Franklin, George Fox, Illinois Wesleyan, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Methodist, St. Olaf, St. Mary’s (Ind.), Washington-St. Louis, Whitman, UW-Eau Claire, Williams, and Wartburg.

The 2012 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships will be held at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind. on May 8-11.  Zollner Golf Course is an 18–hole championship golf course known for its beautifully landscaped, undulating fairways, scenic views, strategically placed water hazards and hilly terrain.
