Gustavus Adolphus sophomore women’s hockey player Melissa Doyle (White Bear Lake, Minn.) was featured on the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Student-Athlete Spotlight last week.  The Spotlight highlights student-athletes from across the conference each Tuesday and Thursday.

The Gustavus women’s hockey team opened its 2011-12 season with a pair of home victories last weekend, defeating Concordia University 7-1 on Friday night and topping St. Norbert College 8-1 on Saturday afternoon.  Doyle scored three points over the weekend, scoring a goal and an assist on Friday and adding another assist on Saturday.  The second-year forward currently has a rating of +3.

Melissa is a Biology major and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity through the Gustavus Center for Servant-Leadership.

The Gustavus women’s hockey team will open MIAC play this weekend with a away/home series against Bethel.  Gustavus will take on the Royals on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7:00 p.m. in Blaine, Minn., and Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
