Women’s Soccer Beat 1-0 On Late Goal By Bethel Posted on October 18th, 2011 by

Sophomore midfielder Liz Underwood takes the ball cross midfield as Bethel's Carolyn Kishaba gives chase.

The first 84 minutes of action passed by before a goal was made, but that score favored Bethel University as the Royals escaped with 1-0 MIAC victory over the Gustavus women’s soccer team Tuesday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. With the loss, the Gusties drop to 3-11-0 overall and 1-7-0 in the MIAC, while Bethel improves to 8-4-2 overall and 3-3-1 in league play.

With six minutes remaining in regulation, Bethel’s Carrie Kishaba booted the ball forward into the Gustie zone where Sophie Christiansen made a run up the right side and found the far left corner of the net. The goal was Christiansen’s team-leading sixth of the season.

Gustavus didn’t offer much offensive firepower, posting six shots in the contest compared to 13 by Bethel. Keeper Jessica Richert made eight saves in goal for the Gusties, bringing her season total to 97. Her counterpart, Bethel keeper Callie Roseland, was only contested twice and made the save on each shot.

The Gusties host their last home game of the 2011 campaign Saturday at 11:00 a.m. against the University of St. Thomas.
