Women’s Soccer Drops Conference Opener To St. Olaf 3-0 Posted on September 15th, 2011 by

Gustavus junior forward Tam Meuwissen put the most pressure on the St. Olaf defense with three shots on goal, but was unable to connect for a score.

The MIAC opened conference action for women’s soccer on Wednesday with Gustavus falling to St. Olaf 3-0 in Northfield, Minn. The Gusties were shut out for the fourth time this season, falling to 0-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the MIAC.

St. Olaf scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 17:30 mark in the first period. Amanda Leone found the back of the net on an assist from Annie Manning. Deanne Schmidt added the Oles’ second goal of the half at the 29:13 mark on a corner kick header assisted by Anna Theis. Halfway through the second period at the 71:26 mark, Lindsay Howard ended the scoring with an unassisted goal to cap off the 3-0 victory.

The Oles outshot the Gusties 14-to-4 in the contest. All four of Gustavus’ shots were on goal – three provided by junior forward Tam Meuwissen. Gustavus goalkeeper Jessica Richert was pressured with eight shots on goal and made five saves.

The Gusties will travel north on Sunday, Sept. 18 to take on 11th-ranked Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
