Gustavus Adolphus senior Janey Helland earned All-America honors in both the pentathlon and long jump at the 2011 NCAA Championships held March 11-12 in Columbus, Ohio. In addition, Helland was also named Central Region Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Gustavus men's tennis team extended its current win streak to four matches with convincing wins over UW-Whitewater 8-1 and Augustana, S.D. 9-0 on Saturday at the Swanson Tennis Center. The Gusties went 12-0 in singles and 5-1 in doubles on the day.
The Gustavus gymnastics team wrapped up its 2011 team schedule with a season best score of 178.350 at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, which were held at the University of Wisconsin at Stout in Menonomie.
The Gustavus women's tennis team defeated UW-Whitewater 7-2 and Augustana 7-2 on Saturday in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties improve to 6-4 overall with the wins, while UW-Whitewater drops to 12-2 and Augustana falls to 8-2.

Gustavus Adolphus senior defenseman Mitch Carlson and junior forward Ross Ring-Jarvi have been honored as All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by a vote of the league’s coaches. Freshman forward Gustav Bengtson earned a spot on the All-Rookie team, while senior Brad Wieck was Gustavus’ representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
Gustavus senior Jens Brabbit took 36th place in the 10k freestyle race on Wednesday at the NCAA Skiiing Championships in Stowe, Vermont. Brabbit will compete again on Friday, March 11, in the 20k classic race.
The Gustavus gymnastics team will travel to Menomonie, Wis. for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, March 12. The University of Wisconsin at Stout will serve as the host for the eight team championship, which is set to start at 4 pm in the Johnson Fieldhouse.
