The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s golf team stayed the course and finished strong in day three, winning the 2010 MIAC Women’s Golf Championship for the third year in a row on Monday at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn.  The Gusties took the team title after recording a three-day score of 974 (+110).  With the victory, Gustavus earn a berth into the NCAA Championships this Spring.  Katie Schenfeld, the reigning MIAC individual medalist, defended her title to become first back-to-back MIAC Champion in Gustavus history after shooting a 224 (+8).

Schenfeld, a senior from Indianola, Iowa, bested her last season finish of 236 by 12 strokes this year.  Her score is the lowest three-day total total since the tournament went to 54 holes in 2006.  She finished the tournament by recording a 78 in day three after shooting pair of 73 rounds in day one and two, besting former teammate Kali Griggs’s single day total of 74 (2009) by one stroke.  Schenfeld was joined on the podium by teammate Taylor Drenttel, who finished runner-up for the second consecutive year.  Drentell shot a three day total of 239 (+23), turning in a low round of 76 on day three.  Kayleigh Dittes cracked the top-ten with a ninth place finish after firing a 256 (+40).

Schenfeld, Drenttel, and Dittes all earned a spot on the 2010 All-MIAC Women’s Golf Team at the conclusion of the tournament.  It is the fourth time that Schenfeld has earned MIAC All-Conference honors, receiving the award in 2007, 2008, and 2009.  She is the third Gustavus golfer in the history of the program to earn a spot on the All-MIAC team in all four years of collegiate competition, joining the likes of Alicia Golembeski (1998-2001) and Kali Griggs (2007-10).  Drenttel makes the All-MIAC team for the third straight year, while it is the first time Dittes has received the honor.

Rounding out the Gustavus squad was Rikka Holiday in 15th and Ann Jackson in 17th.  Holiday shot a 258 (+42) with a best round of 84 in day three, while Jackson turned in a 261 with a best round of 86 in day three.

Finishing behind Gustavus in second place was St. Olaf, followed by Saint Benedict in third.  The Oles registered a three-day total of 1020 (+156), and the Blazers finished with a 1030 (+166).
