Men’s Indoor Track and Field Set For MIAC Championships This Weekend

The Gustavus men's indoor track and field team will arrive at 2009 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships with a veteran group that will be looking to improve on their seventh place finish a year ago. The meet begins with the heptathlon competition on Thursday and runs through Saturday afternoon. Concordia will serve as the hosts with the event taking place at the Olson Forum on the Concordia campus.

The meet begins with the heptathlon competition on Thursday and runs through Saturday afternoon. Concordia will serve as the hosts with the event taking place at the Olson Forum on the Concordia campus.

Men’s Hockey And Hamline Set To Meet In MIAC Playoff Championship Game, Live Video And Stats Available

The No. 2 seed Gustavus men's hockey team will face No. 4 seed Hamline in the MIAC Playoff Championship on Wednesday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink with an 8:00 p.m. puck drop. The winner will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament Gustavus enters the contest at 16-10-0, while Hamline comes in at 16-10-1. The Gustavus Sports Information Department will be providing a live video broadcast of the game as well as live statistics.

Gustavus Baseball Ready To Contend For MIAC Title In 2009

The Gustavus baseball team will open its 2009 season with a non-conference doubleheader against Loras College of Dubuque, Iowa at the Metrodome on Saturday. The Gusties will be led by veterans Mike DesLauriers and Nate Ruff. The Duhawks, who are a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, will also be playing in their first game of the season.

Allie Schwab Named Co-MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week

Gustavus first year forward Allie Schwab of Stillwater, Minn. has been named Co-MIAC Player of the Week with Lauren Bradel of St. Thomas. Schwab scored two unassisted goals to help the Gusties defeat St. Olaf 5-0 in a MIAC Playoff semifinal game on Saturday in St. Peter. Schwab leads the team in goals scored this season with 14. Gustavus, which is now 21-1-4 on the season, will face St. Thomas on Wednesday in St. Peter in the MIAC Playoff Championship game.

Kaelene Lundstrum Named MIAC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus junior Kaelene Lundstrum (Bird Island, Minn./BOLD) was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 1, 2009. Lundstrum won the shot put and the high jump with NCAA provisional marks at the Pre-MIAC Meet hosted by Macalester on Saturday. Her leap of 1.67 meters (5' 5 3/4" ft) in the high jump not only tops the MIAC list, but is sixth nationally.

Men’s and Women’s Nordic Skiing Combine To Finish Fifth At NCAA Central Region Championships

The Gustavus men's and women's nordic ski teams turned in strong performances at the NCAA Central Region Championships combining to finish fifth out of 11 teams. The races were held in Houghton, Mich. Kelly Chaudoin led the women's team with a fourth place finish in the 10K freestyle race, while Jens Brabbit led the men's team with a 12th place finish in the 15k freestyle.
