Men’s Hockey Falls To Norwich 4-3 In Championship Game At Norwich Tournament

The Gustavus men's hockey team fell to #12 Norwich University 4-3 on Saturday night in the championship game of the Norwich Holiday Tournament in Northfield, Vermont. The Cadets never trailed due in part to the play of tournament MVP goaltender Ryan Klingensmith as he made 38 saves in the contest. Joe Welch registered two goals for the Gusties, while James Leathers assisted all three scores. David Martinson and Brad Wieck represented Gustavus on the all-tournament team.

Women’s Basketball Slips Past St. Kate’s 57-54 To Stay Unbeaten In MIAC Play

The Gustavus women's basketball team rallied in the final minute of play to nip St. Kate's 57-54 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Gus Young Court in St. Peter on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties did not hold a lead in the game until Molly Geske hit two free throws with :42 left in regulation play which put Gustavus up 55-54. Bri Radtke and Julia Schultz each made one free throw in the final :19 to allow the Gusties to remain undefeated in league play at 5-0.

Brad Wieck’s Two Goals Sparks Men’s Hockey Team To 4-1 Upset Over #5 Elmira

The Gustavus men's hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead and held on for an important 4-1 win over #5 Elmira College at the Norwich Holiday Tournament in Northfield, Vermont. Brad Wieck recorded the first two-goal game of his collegiate career and goaltender Matt Lopes turned in a strong performance in the nets to move the Gusties into the championship game on Saturday at 6:00 pm (CST) against the winner of the Norwich/Neumann game.

Women’s Hockey Defeats #1 Amherst 3-0

The Gustavus women's hockey team started off the 2009 portion of their schedule with a thrilling 3-0 win over top ranked Amherst at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter, Minn. on Friday night. Three different players scored for Gustavus, while goaltender Danielle Justice made 17 saves including spectacular stops to help the Gusties knock off a #1 ranked team for the first time in the program's history.
