Gustie Women’s Soccer Battles Luther To 0-0 Tie In Two Overtimes

The Gustavus women's soccer team traveled to Decorah, Iowa for a non-conference match against the Luther Norse on Wednesday night. After 110 minutes of scoreless play, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Gustavus senior goalkeeper Ashley Ohlson recorded her first shutout of the season making nine saves.

Volleyball Sweeps Bethany Lutheran 3-0

Strong hitting combined with solid blocking lifted the Gustavus volleyball team past Bethany Lutheran 3-0 by the scores of 25-19, 25-11, 25-14 in St. Peter Wednesday night. The Gusties hit .293 for the match with 30 kills and just eight errors, and outblocked the Vikings 9.0-1.0. Bethany Lutheran struggled offensively as it finished with 24 hitting errors compared to 28 kills. Gustavus remained undefeated at 9-0 overall, while the Vikings dropped to 3-6 overall.

Emily Klein Named MIAC Volleyball Setter/Libero Of The Week

Gustavus Adolphus College senior libero Emily Klein (Red Wing, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Setter/Libero of the Week for the week ending September 8, 2008. Klein was named to the Gustavus Classic All-Tournament team and helped the Gusties to 4-0 record over the weekend.

Women’s Golf Continues Winning Ways With First Place Finish At Wartburg Invitational

The Gustavus women's golf team won its second tournament title of the fall season with a convincing first place finish at the 17-team Wartburg Invitational which was played at Centennial Oaks Golf Club in Waverly, Iowa. The Gusties, who fired a team total of 324-309--633, were led by Kimbra Kosak who finished second individually at 78-78--156.

Men’s Golf Opens Season With Solid Second Place Finish at Augsburg Invitational

The Gustavus men's golf team opened its 2008 season with a second place finish out of 17 teams at the Augsburg Invitational which was played at the Oakdale Golf Club on Saturday and the Crow River Golf Club on Sunday. The Gusties posted a 36-hole team score of 294-317--611 to finish 14 shots behind first place Bethel at 289-308--597. Ricky Copeland finished second individually at 71-76--147.

Men’s Soccer Defeats Marian 5-1 As Zelenz Picks Up 300th Career Coaching Victory

The Gustavus men's soccer team wrapped up a successful weekend at home with a convincing 5-1 win over Marian College of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon. Balanced scoring was again a key for the Gusties as four different players found the net including Ben Eriksson, Stefan Kolis, Ben Ikeda, and Max Malmquist.

Volleyball Wins Gustavus Classic To Remain Perfect At 8-0

After recording 3-1 victories over the College of St. Scholastica and Viterbo University, the Gustavus volleyball team claimed first place at the Gustavus Classic in St. Peter on Saturday. The Gusties' 8-0 overall record is the program's best start since 1984 when Gustavus began the season at 20-0. Bridget Burtzel (Sr., Cold Spring, Minn.) and Emily Klein (Sr., Red Wing, Minn.) were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts over the weekend.

Volleyball Remains Undefeated After First Day Of Gustavus Classic

The Gustavus volleyball team recorded wins over Martin Luther College and 20th-ranked UW-La Crosse during the first day of the Gustavus Classic in St. Peter on Friday. The Gusties swept Martin Luther 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-16) in their first match and overcame a slow start to upset UW-La Crosse by the scores of 14-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-14. Gustavus, which improved to 6-0 this season, will face the College of St. Scholastica and Viterbo University on Saturday in St. Peter.

Gustavus Women’s Soccer Falls 3-1 at UW-Stevens Point

The Gustavus women's soccer team allowed two first half goals in a 3-1 loss at UW-Stevens Point on Friday afternoon. The loss marks the first defeat of the 2008 season for the Gusties. The Pointers controlled played for the majority of the match outshooting Gustavus 37-5. Sophomore forward Ashley Anderson scored the only goal for the Gusties in the 54th minute.

Men’s Soccer Records Five First Half Goals On Way To 7-0 Win Over Dakota Wesleyan

The Gustavus men's soccer team bounced back from its disappointing 4-0 loss to Whitworth last Sunday with a convincing 7-0 win over Dakota Wesleyan in St. Peter on Friday afternoon. First year forward Chris Golv led the first half explosion with two goals and one assist. Senior defender Todd Johnson pitched in with the first goal of his career in the 28th minute. The Gusties are now 2-1 on the season.
